Stacey Solomon has revealed the unusual cleaning benefits of a popular 95p condiment in an episode of Sort Your Life Out on BBC One.

In episode two of the first series, the TV icon and her cleaning crew headed to Wembley to help parents-of-two Bijal and Darshan part with their possessions and transform their home into a clutter-free zone. Stacey said: "Bijal and Darshan both say they really struggle to let go of absolutely anything, and it’s starting to take over their life."

Bijal continued: "Over the years, every time we have got more stuff rather than reducing it we have just brought more furniture to hide it in." As the trusty team tackled the chaotic home, cleaning expert Iwan Carrington shared a "convenient and cheap" trick for removing stubborn adhesive marks.

Pointing out the sticky tape stains lining the window frame, the household guru said: "This has gone quite crunchy, so I think I want to break it back by softening it with something." In a surprising turn of events, Iwan grabbed a bottle of mayonnaise and applied a "good dollop" to the marks.

The kitchen cupboard essential contains vinegar which is made of acetic acid - a chemical compound that effectively breaks down dirt. "This has got plenty of vinegar in it and it’s the vinegar that will do the trick," added the expert.

According to Today’s Homeowner, mayonnaise is also an effective DIY treatment for water stains on wood furniture because it contains egg yolk, oil and vinegar. The site explains: "The fat from the egg yolks and oil penetrates into the finish and replaces the moisture from the water stain. Meanwhile, the mild acidity from the vinegar helps break down the stain."

It's recommended that the mayonnaise is left to sit on the stain overnight, and it can be simply wiped away with a clean cloth the following day. Turning his attention to the kitchen, Iwan then microwaved lemon water to banish any unpleasant odours and loosen up any food that’s stuck inside the appliance. He quipped: "That’s going to create a nice microwave sauna and make it all lovely inside. It smells so much better already."

Using a cleaning cloth, the expert then wiped over the microwave plate with the homemade concoction. Shoppers can bag mayonnaise from both Lidl and Aldi for 95p, while lemon can be picked up for as little as 16p.
