The One Show viewers are convinced Adrian Chiles 'wants his old job back' after he 'took over' an interview.

Adrian, who was a presenter on The One Show between 2007 -2010, made an appearance on Tuesday to promote his new book called The Good Drinker: How I Learned to Love Drinking Less.

Viewers picked up on the fact that he started interviewing guest Naomi Ackie and took over from the two hosts - Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.

They took to social media to share their belief that the writer hoped to 'impress' producers on the BBC show.

One viewer posted: "Adrian Chiles fishing for his old job back here?? #TheOneShow."

In 2016, he filmed a two-part travel series called My Mediterranean with Adrian Chiles for BBC Two. He also presented a special edition of Panorama and went on to present a documentary entitled Drinkers Like Me.

He worked for the BBC for many decades and even previously joked that everyone at the company first thought he was 'thick' because of his Birmingham accent.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain in 2020, he discussed whether it was okay to joke about the accent to hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Adil Ray.

He revealed that when he first attended a meeting at the BBC and said a coherent sentence, everyone considered him a genius because he exceeded their expectations.

"Definitely when I started in journalism, I started at the BBC, it was definitely to my advantage that people did think I was thick because of the Birmingham accent," he said.

"I walked into the BBC, not far from where you are now actually, with my knuckles dragging along the ground.

"And they went, 'Who have they got here? Who's this?'

"But I vividly remember in the first planning meeting I had, I strung a reasonably coherent sentence together, and they all looked at me like, 'Who's this? The lad's a genius?'"
