There’s a new iOS update from Apple and anyone with a relatively new iPhone in their pockets would be wise to install it without delay. iOS 17.4, which started rolling out to devices earlier this week, fixes two important security glitches.
That might not sound that scary but what makes this release so urgent is that the bugs in question have been given the dreaded zero-day stamp.
For those not in the know, zero-day threats basically mean cyber crooks are aware of the gremlins and could be actively exploiting them right now. So, not updating could put your device at risk.
That’s why it’s vital you check your iPhone and install things without delay.
The two issues impact a pair of features called the Kernel and RTKit. "Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited," explained the firm on its advisory page.

Once iOS 17.4 is installed then there should be no further concerns about these issues and your iPhone will then be safe.
To check if your iPhone is in need of an update simply head to Settings, General and tap Software Update. Here you’ll see the option to download and install iOS 17.4.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW IN iOS 17.4?
Along with those bug fixes there's plenty more tucked inside iOS 17.4 including the ability to sideload apps if you live in the EU. This a major change from Apple which now means owners can add applications without needing to be tied to the official App Store. It doesn't work in the UK just yet but that could change soon.
Other extras include bonus emojis, improved Stolen Device Protection and better Battery Health options in Settings.
