An "all round good egg" and football manager has died after allegedly being attacked in a pub car park near Bristol, police said.
Scott Hendy was taken to Southmead Hospital where he later died after being seriously injured in Redwick Road, Pilning, near Bristol, on Saturday at about 12.15am. Avon and Somerset Police were called to reports of an incident in a Pilning pub car park before they rushed the 46-year-old to hospital. His next of kin have been informed.
"Our thoughts are with them and they are receiving specialist support from family liaison officers. A forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted", Avon and Somerset Police said. George Baylis, 29, of Redwick Road, Pilning, has been charged with manslaughter and was remanded into custody after appearing at Bristol Magistrates' Court earlier. He is due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 8 April.
Tributes have poured in for Hendy, including from The Park Knowle FC, where he was a manager and his son played. On Facebook, The Park Knowle wrote: "Thank you for all your time and effort and support put into Park Knowle FC. Another life taken to soon. You will be missed by all that knew you. We are thinking of all Scott's family especially his children which includes our own Park Knowle player and his team and managers."
Kristy Anne wrote on Facebook: "Bumped into you last year and it was like no time had passed, you hadn’t changed from the cheeky blonde boy who was obsessed with football. Always lovely. Polite and an all round good egg. My heart goes out to your grandparents, parents, brothers children and everyone who loved you. Rest easy all our love."
