An "all round good egg" and football manager has died after allegedly being attacked in a pub car park near Bristol, police said.

Scott Hendy was taken to Southmead Hospital where he later died after being seriously injured in Redwick Road, Pilning, near Bristol, on Saturday at about 12.15am. Avon and Somerset Police were called to reports of an incident in a Pilning pub car park before they rushed the 46-year-old to hospital. His next of kin have been informed.

"Our thoughts are with them and they are receiving specialist support from family liaison officers. A forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted", Avon and Somerset Police said. George Baylis, 29, of Redwick Road, Pilning, has been charged with manslaughter and was remanded into custody after appearing at Bristol Magistrates' Court earlier. He is due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 8 April.
