This ultimate comforting recipe will no doubt be on the tables of the Hairy Bikers greatest admirers as they pay a sweet tribute through food to their hero.
Following the devastating news that Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers passed away from cancer, aged 66, tributes have been flooding in from within the world of showbiz and from the TV chef's most devoted fans. The Hairy Bikers chef's best friend and co-star Si King announced his death last week in a post on social media, revealing that he had been surrounded by his wife and friends when he died. It comes two years after Dave first shared that he was receiving cancer treatment and has kept followers updated throughout his journey.

The Hairy Bikers' filling and comforting sausage casserole, which takes just 30 minutes to make, has been a huge hit and fans have highlighted it as one of their best in tributes they've paid to Dave. "Dave Myers. Their sausage casserole recipe is unreal," one wrote, according to the Daily Star.
Another said: "Hairy Bikers sausage casserole is yummy," while a third added: "The Hairy Bikers sausage casserole is really good." Here's how to make the Hairy Bikers sausage casserole, which they shared with the BBC. This recipe serves six, but for more people just add an extra tin of beans and some more bacon and sausages.
Ingredients you will need:

1–2 tbsp sunflower oil
12 good-quality pork sausages
6 rashers rindless streaky bacon, cut into 2.5cm/1in lengths
2 onions, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, crushed
½–1 tsp hot chilli powder or smoked paprika
400g tin chopped tomatoes
300ml/10fl oz chicken stock
2 tbsp tomato purée
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp dark muscovado sugar
1 tsp dried mixed herbs
2 bay leaves
3–4 fresh thyme sprigs
100ml/3½fl oz red or white wine (optional)
400g tin butter beans or mixed beans, drained and rinsed
salt and freshly ground black pepper
rice or rustic bread slices, to serve
Here's the method:
Heat a tablespoon of the oil in a large non-stick frying pan and gently fry the sausages for 10 minutes, turning occasionally until brown all over. Put them in a large casserole dish or saucepan and set aside. Do the same with the bacon.
Next fry the onions for around 5 minutes until they start to soften and then add the garlic. Fry for around 2-3 minutes until the onions start to go golden in colour. Stir in the chilli powder and cook for a few seconds, then add the tomatoes, stock, tomato purée, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and herbs and stir. Pour in the wine (or water) and bring to a simmer.
Carefully tip the mixture into the pot with the meat and return to a simmer. Cover the pan loosely with a lid and reduce the heat. Cook gently for around 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then stir the beans in and cook for another 10 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve with rustic bread or rice.
The casserole can be frozen for up to three months in an airtight container.
