Gary Neville has criticised Victor Lindelof for 'not doing enough' in the lead-up to Phil Foden's equaliser.

Foden was the star of the show as Manchester City beat local rivals Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad on Sunday, with the England international netting a brace. His first goal was a brilliant long-range strike, but Neville was not happy with Lindelof's failure to close him down.

The Swede was filling in at left-back for Luke Shaw who is currently sidelined with a muscle problem, while Tyrell Malacia is yet to play a single game for United this season. "We have seen two special goals at that end of the pitch ," Neville said while on commentary for Sky Sports.

"Manchester United are asking for a foul on Marcus Rashford, but as the ball comes over to Phil Foden, Lindelof does not do enough. He allows him just inside him and he won't expect that Foden is going to ram it into the top corner of his goalkeeper's net, but he just does that.

"The power, the accuracy is incredible from Phil Foden's left boot." United boss Erik ten Hag, however, was booked after protesting that his side should have been awarded a free-kick before Foden's equaliser after a clash between Kyle Walker and Marcus Rashford.

"It is very debatable, I think there was contact and it is a defining moment of the game," Ten Hag told Sky Sports. "also at 2-1 there's a reckless action from City's goalkeeper. It was soft, but when you're in a full sprint and you get a little touch you lose the rhythm and that's why he went down."

However, both Neville and former Premier League referee Mike Dean all disagreed with the Dutchman. "Erik ten Hag is getting booked but I thought it was soft. He gets a little arm on him but there is nothing in that," Neville claimed.

"There's an arm on an arm, but when the way he goes down, the contact and the way he goes down, it's just not a foul and it is the correct decision," Dean added. Walker also shared his perspective on the incident.

"I haven't looked back at it to be completely honest," he explained. "I didn't feel there was much in it. I feel like I did what I normally do and get my arm across, but the referee has seen it and checked it on the VAR and they just have to take it as that and we have gone up the other end, it's sods law isn't it."
