A driver mowed into a crowd of people at a tram stop in the northwestern Polish city of Szczecin, leaving 19 people, including six kids, injured, according to authorities who ruled out terrorism.
Two of the injured people are in critical condition, according to provincial governor Adam Rudawski. Police spokesman Pawel Pankau said the driver was a 33-year-old Polish citizen, adding: "This was not a terrorist act."
Witnesses said the car arrived at a high speed and hit people waiting for a tram in the city's centre. The motorist continued for another kilometre before crashing into three other vehicles, injuring the drivers, they added. The man was then detained. Pankau said there was no immediate indication that the suspect had been drinking alcohol or consuming drugs.
According to Radio Zet, the incident occurred at the Plac Rodła Więcej tram stop. A video on X, formerly Twitter, purports to show numerous injured people sprawled on the floor following the incident. Other footage shows emergency crews providing support to people lying on the road.
