Cleaning expert's 'easy home hacks' keep your house tidy and smelling fresh

A 'clean queen' has shared her five favourite hacks to help people keep their homes clean and tidy without extra effort. With 2.6 million Instagram followers, the 'Home of Styling, Organising + Cleaning Hacks' account @mama_mila_au is owned by Chantel Mila Ibbotson, a mum-of-two and author of The Dream Clean, who has become the go-to for her followers for the latest cleaning tips and tricks.

Focused on ways to keep a home looking tip top in minimum time, her account, which she started a few years ago, has become especially useful for people juggling work and raising a family. “I know how hard it can be to juggle and manage household tasks, so I started this channel to share ways to make cleaning that little bit easier and more cost-effective,” she said.

One of her more recent posts, titled ‘Which one will you try first?,’ has seen the cleaning expert showcase the top tips she found to be a 'game changer' in her home, with her reel receiving more than 98k likes.She said: “Make your home look and smell amazing with these five easy and inexpensive tricks,’ before detailing them on Instagram for her followers to try:

1. Place 2 tbs vanilla extract in the oven at 180°C for 10 mins to make your home smell like cookies

2. Place essential oils on cotton balls and inside your vacuum to make your whole home smell fresh

3. And you can also place them under your bin liner to get rid of odours

4. Run 1 cup of baking soda in your dishwasher to get rid of any musty odours

5. And neutralise bathroom odours by mopping floors with shaving cream


Followers loved her advice, with many saying they had used them immediately: “I enjoyed all of these tips and great, they’re so natural and inexpensive,” said one, while another commented: “Awesome natural hacks!”

Many others asked for additional tips around the home, while one enthused: “When I move into my own home I will be following your guides. They’re the best!”

Another said that while they weren’t usually into instagram hacks they had tried one that day: “It was the absolute best cleaning solution ever! And I’m very fussy. My shower screens are sparkling and it’s the easiest clean I’ve ever done. Thank you!"
