Mason Greenwood has ‘no desire’ to play for Manchester United again despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s hint that he could return.

The Red Devils academy graduate is currently in the middle of a loan spell with Spanish side Getafe. United sent him out in a temporary transfer after charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

New minority owner of the club, Ratcliffe, recently suggested that the club could be open on an Old Trafford return for the forward. However, it appears that the striker is not interested.

According to The Athletic, Greenwood would be ‘reluctant’ to move back to Manchester. It is reported that he feels that the club could have supported him better and he does not have any desire to represent the Red Devils once again.

Greenwood, 22, made his last appearance for Man United in January 2022. Should he never play for the club again, that would leave his record at 35 goals in 129 appearances.

Greenwood’s response comes after Ratcliffe’s recent comments that the Red Devils still have a long-term call to make over his future. He said: "We will make a decision, correct.

“All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if is he a good person or not?

“He’s a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football. So the answer is 'yeah, we have to make decisions. It’s quite clear we have to make a decision.

“There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on-loan obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.

"The process will be: understand the facts not the hype, and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not? Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?"

Greenwood’s contract with Man United runs until the summer of 2025. He has already been linked with a permanent move to Spain - with Barcelona emerging as potential suitors for his signature.

During his time with Getafe, Greenwood has scored five goals and notched as many assists in 22 appearances. He will hope to add to that record this weekend during Getafe’s showdown with Las Palmas.
