Millions of us are already using smartphones, smartwatches and even smart glasses but the next big thing could be smart rings. Samsung teased this concept earlier this year during its Galaxy S24 showcase in California and now the Korean technology giant has shown off its idea for the very first time.

The new Galaxy Ring has been on display at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona and Mirror Online has been lucky enough to see it in the flesh.

Full details about this device remain scarce with Samsung only saying that it will keep an eye on the wellness of users during the day and night.

As you'll see from our photos it appears very simplistic but don't be fooled as this piece of jewellery looks set to come packed with health and fitness features that could change your life.

From our up close look, it appears the Galaxy Ring is full of sensors that could allow it to track your heart rate, sleep, body temperature and movement.

Its design should also help it feel less intrusive than a smartwatch and it won't show notifications or start bleeping at you when you get a text. It's unclear if it will allow you to pay for your shopping (a bit like the Oura Ring) but that would certainly add to its appeal as you'd never need to take your wallet with you again.

So far it seems that it will come in three colours (silver, gold and grey) and numerous sizes to help it fit all fingers.

That's all we know for now but if Samsung keeps its promise then full details including health benefits and price will be announced in the coming months.

"We’re thrilled to be introducing Samsung Galaxy Ring later this year — bringing Samsung’s accumulated innovations to the smallest form for comfortable 24/7 wear," the firm said.

"As a new addition to our wearables portfolio, Galaxy Ring will offer users an all-new way to simplify everyday wellness, empowering them with greater insights and more ways to understand themselves day and night. With Galaxy Ring, users can embrace an unrivalled experience during every step of their wellness journey, all while being delivered in lockstep with Samsung’s broader vision for a more connected, integrated and seamless digital wellness platform."
