A Scottish dad has been left heartbroken after what he thought was just stomach pains have been diagnosed as stage four bowel cancer.

Kevin Brady, 44, took himself to the A&E at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie after suffering from excruciating pain in April 2022. The "fit and healthy" dad-of-two was kept in overnight before a scan the next day revealed that he had cancer. After undergoing numerous bouts of chemotherapy, his recent scan results show that there's been a progression of the disease.

He told GlasgowLive: "I felt totally numb and shocked. My first reaction was how long have I got? I have bad neuropathy from the chemo and my feet and toes are numb and sore making it hard to walk. Everything has changed so much and we are just living day to day. I've been told I will be on chemo for the rest of my life and they can't operate."

Kevin lives in Cumbernauld with wife Sharon, 42, and their children Orla, 11 and 16-year-old Sean. His family have been devastated by the disease with his sister, Donna, losing her fight against sarcoma cancer back in 2018 - aged just 41. Now, his younger sister, Laura McGowan, 34, is battling breast cancer.

Speaking about Kevin's diagnosis, Sharon said: "I walked in after getting back from holiday, it was around 12am. He was standing in the living room and broke down. I asked what happened and he said 'I have cancer'. I kept saying 'no way, it can't be'. My whole world felt like it was crashing down. He's so young and I can't do life without him. Seeing him like this is not easy at all. Our plans have all had to totally change and we are worried, living on edge daily."
