Rasmus Hojlund 's brother Oscar has hailed the Manchester United striker's mental strength after the summer signing ended his goal drought in some style, even if injury has put his scoring run on hold.

The elder Hojlund brother joined United from Atalanta over the summer in a deal which could be worth an eventual £72million. He failed to score in any of his first 14 Premier League games but has seven in his last seven, starting with a winner against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, helping his team climb the table.

A double against Luton Town last weekend saw Hojlund draw level with Scott McTominay as his team's top scorer in the Premier League. He leads the way on his own when it comes to goals for the clubin all competitions, after hitting five in Europe and one in the FA Cup fourth round victory over Newport County.

The 21-year-old won't be able to add to the cup tally in the fifth round against Nottingham Forest, though. Hojlund is set to miss the next two to three weeks with a muscle injury, ruling him out of Premier League meetings with Fulham and Manchester City.

Oscar Hojlund, 19, plays for FC Copenhagen along with twin brother Emil. Speaking to Danish magazine Tipsbladet (via United in Focus ), the teenager opened up on his elder sibling's development after a slow start. "I saw the highlights after the [Luton] match," Oscar said. “The family and I are incredibly proud. He had a bit of a tough start over there and now he has shown how mentally strong he is and has come on top. I hope he can continue.

"I saw his very first goal against Aston Villa. We were over to celebrate Christmas over there," he added. "We were completely up and running and really happy for him because it meant so much to him. We also celebrated the score as much as he did, so he was happy there."

United confirmed Hojlund's absence ahead of Saturday's meeting with Fulham. "Rasmus Hojlund will miss Manchester United's Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday due to a muscle injury. It is expected to keep him out for two to three weeks," the club's statement read. The latest blow comes after a match-winning display at Luton. Both of Hojlund's goals came inside the opening 10 minutes, with United holding on after Carlton Morris pulled a goal back, and Ten Hag's comments echo those of the Dane's younger brother.

“We recruited him on his character,” Ten Hag said. “I knew it was strong. He can really perform under stress and that is something you need as a Manchester United striker. He doesn’t get nervous or lose confidence. He has a lot of confidence and I’m sure he will score even more. He needed support but he kept calm. He was unlucky at the start. You see he’s a fighter, he keeps going. There are many areas where he can improve but his scoring ability is clear.”
