Stephen Fry, Richard Osman, and Carol Vorderman have topped a list of celebrities – whom Brits would want as teammates on a game show, a study has found.

Beloved QI host, Stephen Fry, took almost a third of the vote, with 32%, of the 2,000 adults surveyed, saying they would want him on their side to help answer some tricky game show questions.

He came ahead of House of Games host Richard Osman (25%), and Countdown stars, Carol Vorderman (23%) and Rachel Riley (17%).

Elsewhere in the top 10 list, Brian Cox (16%) and David Attenborough (17%) were considered as good teammates, while one in 10 (11%) picked David Mitchell.

And when it comes to their dream celebrity presenter, Bradley Walsh topped the list, with 50% of the votes – followed by the Pointless presenters, Richard Osman (20%), and Alexander Armstrong (19%). Ben Shepherd (17%) and Stephen Mulhern (19%) were other popular choices to host.

It emerged that The Chase is the game show Brits would most like to participate in (52%), followed by Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (26%), and Pointless (20%).

The study, commissioned by Pluto TV, to mark its “Best of British” game show offering, also found 24% of adults watch game shows daily. Another 42% tune in a few times a week, while 21% enjoy them on a weekly basis.

Shows like The Chase were considered the easiest game show to win, by 44% of those polled, closely followed by puzzle shows like The Crystal Maze. Meanwhile, dating shows like Love Island were deemed the hardest to win, with only 2% feeling confident in their chances.

Despite this, 39% expressed confidence in their abilities to have game show success – with one in 10 feeling any show would be a breeze. Just 10% admitted they would have no chance of winning were they to enter, according to the OnePoll.com figures.

It also emerged 82% of those polled are drawn to game shows by the monetary prize, while 7% are enticed by vacations and travel packages.

But despite the popularity of game shows, 67% admitted they are unlikely to go for a spot on a UK game show – although 16% expressed interest in applying in the near future.

They aren’t all glory and cash, though, as 42% wouldn’t like to be in the spotlight, while 15% expressed concerns about dealing with time pressure.

And 14% would worry about saying something stupid, while 11% admitted being asked a tough question under pressure would be a struggle.

A spokesman for Pluto TV said: “Game shows hold a special place in British hearts, and we wanted to delve into the reasons behind this enduring affection.

“Through this survey, we aim to deepen our understanding of the unique elements that make game shows a staple in UK households, and enhance our commitment to delivering an engaging viewing experience.”
