Jordan Spieth has been disqualified from the Genesis Invitational after signing an incorrect scorecard after the second day of the tournament.

m was put down as scoring a three instead of the four he made on the fourth hole. He had actually made bogey on the par-3 after missing left of the green, chipping to four feet then missing the resulting putt.

Spieth had a tough day after a tremendous opening round, with a two-over par score leaving him three-under and tied 20th entering the weekend before his tournament was abruptly cut short. According to Rule 6-6b, when the round or match is over, the player should double-check the scorecard and be certain the score for each hole is correct.

The rules state that any player who incorrectly signs a scorecard returning a score lower than the actual score must be disqualified. Spieth is not the first player to fall foul of the rules by signing an incorrect card and paying the ultimate price.

Spieth was not the only big name to see his weekend end before it began. Tiger Woods was making his PGA Tour comeback at the tournament but withdrew after just six holes of the second round due to illness.

Woods, who was two-over for the tournament at the time, was taken off the course in a golf cart. An ambulance later arrived at Riviera Country Club sparking fears over his health but his advisor, Rob McNamara confirmed he was treated with an IV and suffering from flu-like symptoms before leaving the course in a car.

McNamara said: "So he started feeling some flu-like symptoms last night. Woke up this morning, they were worse than the night previous.

"He had a little bit of a fever and that, and was better during the warm-up, but then when he got out there and was walking and playing, he started feeling dizzy.

"Ultimately the doctors are saying he's got some - potentially some type of flu and that he was dehydrated. He's been treated with an IV bag and he's doing much, much better and he'll be released on his own here soon."

Asked to confirm there was no physical injury involved, he said: "Correct, correct. Not physical at all, his back's fine. It was all medical illness, dehydration, which is now the symptoms are reversing themselves now that he's had an IV."

While Spieth and Woods were two big-name casualties after a chaotic day at Riviera, other big names also saw their tournaments ended due to on-course performance. Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark and Matt Fitzpatrick were all among those to miss the cut.

Patrick Cantlay leads the tournament by five shots on 13-under par. However, he's also faced controversy with calls for a "huge fine" after failing to shout 'fore' during the opening day.
