Less than four months after its release, Sony has dropped the price of the PS5 Slim console down to its lowest-ever UK price.

The PS5 Slim was officially announced last October after rumours of the console with a detachable disc drive ramped up at the start of 2023. in January. It wasn't a huge surprise, given Sony's penchant for releasing slimmed-down versions of its hardware a couple of years into their lifecycles; but what has taken us aback is a PS5 Slim price drop that's rolled out in the UK less than three months after it launched on November 29.

The PS5 Slim is available in two variants – similar to the original launch model. There's the version that comes with the disc drive for £479.99 / $499.99 / AU$799.99 and the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, essentially, that comes without the detachable disc drive for £389.99 / $449.99 / AU$769.99. But thanks to the modular design, if you want to buy the disc drive separately to transform it into the 'disc drive edition' you can, and that'll set you back £99.99 / $79.99 / AU$159.

A bit of cursory math here will reveal that picking up the PS5 Slim with the detachable disc drive included is the most cost-effective option, saving you around £10 / $30 / AU$130 compared to if you were to pick up the digital edition and disc drive separately. But now, UK and European gamers can save even more thanks to a pretty chunky discount that sees the PS5 Slim price drop by £60 / €75, bringing it down to £419.99 / €475 – the lowest price we've seen for the console.

The discount is only available on PlayStation Direct in the UK at the moment, but a tweet from the PlayStation Netherlands account mentions that a number of European retailers are participating in the PS5 Slim price drop, so keep your eye on the usual suspects like Amazon, Argos, Very and so on.

While the UK PlayStation account doesn't seem to have tweeted about the deal or how long it'll last, the same PlayStation Netherlands tweet has a firm end date of Sunday, February 25, so we can assume that this is the duration of the PS5 Slim price drop across all regions.

There hasn't been any news of a US or AU PS5 Slim price drop yet, but given that it's just gone live this week, we won't rule it out just yet. Keep an eye on PlayStation's socials as well as PlayStation Direct in your region, and major online retailers.
