Woman's Thames Water receipt shows she owes £2 million - and people are baffled

Getting a hefty bill through the post is something no one enjoys - but how would you feel if you received a water bill for two million pounds?

We're all well aware bills have skyrocketed over the past few years due to the cost of living crisis - but one woman had quite the shock when she was billed a jaw-dropping £2 million for her water bill. The eye-watering bill came to a staggering £2,776,570.15 from Thames Water, and people were astounded to see the shocking receipt.

She uploaded a screenshot of her latest water bill online - unsure how it came to so much.

The unnamed woman shared the image online on a Reddit post "CasualUK" and cooly captioned it: "I owe Thames Water over 2 million quid...how's your week going?" Showing the total sum and at the bottom, it said: "How would you like to pay?" As people flocked to the comments to share their horror at the huge bill and in true Reddit spirit many made light of the situation and chimed in with questions and hilarious suggestions.

One Redditor asked: "What did you do? Fill a Sports Direct mug to the brim?" While another penned: "So you were basically watering the Thames last year?"

However, the woman then detailed that it turned out it was a mistake, much to her relief and said: "Disclaimer: this was a mistake and they fixed it pretty swiftly!" Another Reddit user chimed: "This is classic Thames Water. What's worse is they’ll probably fight it and say it's accurate."

One person advised: "Check your taps. I reckon one of the washers is loose and it's been dripping a bit. Probably worth fixing it..." And a second said: "Cost of living, is getting bad. Time to reuse the bath water for drinking water."

Another shared a similar experience and wrote: "The company I pay my water usage to wanted to bill me for £70782 at one point. I only noticed in advance because I was looking at the website to see where I could save some money (oh the irony). Turns out they almost billed the entire building's water usage to me. £2,7 million is impressive though."
