Liverpool's need for January reinforcements became more acute as the Reds fell to a heavy defeat at Brighton on Saturday.

Two goals from Solly March and one from Danny Welbeck made for what Jurgen Klopp suggested was the worst loss of his Liverpool career. The Reds manager had previously played down the need for January spending after the early arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, but calls for new signings have grown after another setback.

Liverpool fans will also be keeping an eye on potential exits, with a number of players out of contract in the summer. Here are the latest lines from around Anfield.

Neves interest revived

Liverpool are considering a fresh move for Ruben Neves, a player who Jurgen Klopp has long admired. The Wolves midfielder is out of contract in 2024 and appears unlikely to sign new terms at Molineux.

The Reds aren't the only ones in the hunt, with Newcastle also keen on the Portugal international. However, with the Magpies expected to wait until the summer, a January bid could give Klopp's team the upper hand.

Liverpool's manager has made it clear he does not expect further signings before the end of the window. However, the club have been known to make January additions if targets are available at the right price.

Oxlade-Chamberlain could make early exit

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain faces a big decision over his future as he weighs up a January exit over a summer departure. The Liverpool midfielder will be able to join a new club for nothing in the summer, or move now when - as reported by the Mail - he will have 'guaranteed' top-flight options.

England international Oxlade-Chamberlain set Liverpool back £35m when he joined from Arsenal in 2017. He played 30 league games in the 2019-20 title-winning campaign, but injuries have restricted him to just 36 in the two-and-a-half seasons since.

Still just 29 years old, the former Southampton youngster has featured in midfield or the front three this term. He scored his only goal of the season in a January defeat at Brentford, the first time he found the net in more than 11 months.

Keita to leave on a free

Talks over a new deal for Naby Keita have broken down, according to Football Insider. The Guinea international is expected to leave Anfield for nothing when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Keita has been plagued by injuries since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in a big-money move back in 2018. In more than four years with the Merseyside club, the 27-year-old is still yet to make his 50th Premier League start.

After featuring in the Community Shield, Keita was sidelined with a hamstring injury for much of this season. He has yet to start a league game this term, but came off the bench in the weekend defeat at Brighton.
