Gavin and Stacey fans were left saying the same thing as the show is set to return later this year.
The beloved BBC sitcom is making a highly anticipated comeback, five years after the show last appeared on screens. It has now been reported that James Corden and Ruth Jones have been secretly working on a brand new episode. Filming is set to begin this summer with stars including Joanna Page, Matthew Horne, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Rob Brydon and Julia Davis.
The 2019 Christmas special became the most-watched show in a decade after garnering more than 18million viewers. Fans have not been able to contain their excitement at the news another Christmas special is on the way. Taking to X - formerly Twitter - fans have already declared Christmas Day 2024 will be the best TV day.

Another added: "Knowing there’s another gavin & stacey christmas special this year is what’s gonna get me through the year." Someone else echoed the same sentiment: "Knowing that we’re gonna get another gavin & stacey christmas special is what’s gonna keep me going this year."
A fourth commented: "Another Gavin & Stacey Christmas special this year?? I am so ready." A fan added: "Nothing this year is going to be able to beat the news of the return of Gavin & Stacey." As another decaled: "Just realised that this Christmas very well could see: New Gavin & Stacey Doctor Who Christmas Special & A New Wallace & Gromit That would be the best Christmas TV line up in recent memory."

According to Deadline, the new episode is currently in pre-production, with cameras expected to roll in a few months' time. Fans have hoped the new episode will pick up on the cliffhanger from 2019 which saw Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, propose to James Corden's Smithy.
Reports have suggested Netflix could make a bid to buy the comedy show - and snatch it away from the BBC. It is being suggested Netflix would consider the move a ‘coup’ and would pull in new subscribers. A source told The Sun: “Obviously the show has a special history with the BBC, and this seems like its natural and obvious home. Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore has spoken to the pair and made it clear she wants the show to stay put, but Netflix have also made it very, very explicit that they want to air it.”
The source continued: “The provisional Netflix offer, coming as it does from a global conglomerate, dwarfs anything that the Beeb could offer — but Ruth and James aren’t about the money." Last year Ruth and James were spied wandering around Soho in London together, looking in high spirits and laughing. The sighting sparked excitement among Gavin & Stacey fans who hoped that the reunion could signify that the duo were planning to sit down together to write fresh episodes.
Speaking to the MailOnline, Stacey actress Joanna Page said: "I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get the call, and I wouldn't be surprised if I did. But all I can say is, if they were going to do another one I hope it's soon because we're all getting so old, I don't particularly want to see Stacey get that much older."
