A terrifying video captured the terrifying moment a shark attacked a group of tourist divers in the Maldives.

The huge predator went straight to one diver before attacking the next, smashing into the group with its snout and strong head. The video was shared on Instagram, by a spearfishing guide from the Cayman Islands, Cameron Kirkconnell, as a stark reminder to his 126,000 to stay extremely careful when diving in the sea

He captioned the video: "Maldives shark dive fun. I don’t want my insta to be full of these but this one was a great example of people put in a situation they thought was fine. It wasn’t." The guide clarified the video wasn't his, but was used to call for a ban on tourists diving in the ocean with sharks. Reportedly, the dramatic attack occurred recently, and the divers had little experience with sharks/

No one was badly injured in the video, which was shared to Telegram by local news channel MyCrisis at the beginning of February. The video showed the moments after trying to free a shark tangled in either rope or a net. Numerous diving fans flooded the comments section of the shocking post, criticising the actions of those in the footage. One person wrote: "And all they had to do was as touch his nose gently and redirect the beautiful creature."

Another said: "The shark is panicking it’s got something tangled around it. You can see it dragging the line. It’s freaking out and not looking where it’s going and hitting all the divers." There are about 100 shark attacks around the world each year, with scores of both oblivious and risk-taking swimmers mauled by the fish.

Every year, there are around 100 shark attacks around the world, with numerous swimmers being mauled by sharks while in the ocean. In December 2023, a teenage boy died in a horror shark attack at a popular beach in Australia. The youngster's body was pulled from the water minutes after the attack near Ethel Beach in the Innes National Park today. Police remain at the scene and are preparing a report for the coroner.

It is thought the boy had been swimming at around 1.30pm local time at Ethel Beach but encountered the animal, understood to be common along Marion Bay at the Innes National Park.

A local fisherman said: "We've seen some pretty big bronzies in the area, but that's normal here... I went to take the boat out and the road to Ethel's was blocked by rangers. There's no cell reception out there in the park so we didn't know what had happened until we got back to Marion Bay."
