Paloma Faith and Carol Vorderman are some of the stars who slammed Rishi Sunak over his derogatory remark about transgender people.

The Prime Minister made the remark in the House of Commons this week while the mum of murdered transgender teen Brianna Ghey was a guest in Parliament. Sunak was cheered from the Tory benches as he claimed Labour leader Keir Starmer "can't even define a woman". His comment sparked immediate outrage with angry MPs shouting "shame" as a silent Sunak refused to apologise.

Earlier this morning, he again refused to apologise for the comment as he insisted his remark was "absolutely legitimate" because he was pointing out Starmer's 'U-turns'. Following his disparaging comment, stars including Paloma, Carol and Married At First Sight's Ella Morgan took to social media to slam him.

Along with a video of his comment, Countdown icon Carol tweeted: "Rishi Sunak should resign When Brianna Ghey's mother is watching in the House of Commons Sunak mocks Transgender people "He (Starmer) can't even define a woman, although that was only 99% of a U-turn" The Tories laugh like a pack of hyenas." Singer Paloma retweeted the post and added: "Yep, still a c*** @RishiSunak." Married At First Sight UK's first transgender star Ella reposted Stonewall's statement on her Instagram Stories.

The statement read: "For the Prime Minister to use trans people as a punchline, in front of the grieving mother of a murdered trans child, was cheap, callous and crass. The disrespect and dehumanisation of trans people that we see played out daily in the media and in our political discourse has real-life consequences and it has to stop. We call on the Prime Minister to apologise unreservedly for his comments, and for him to reflect on how careless words from those power can and do result in harm."

Katie Piper also discussed the remark on the Loose Women panel. She branded him as 'dangerous' and 'embarrassing' and furiously argued: "I think that anybody - in particular our leaders - who use such dehumanising language about the most marginalised minorities in our society is so dangerous.

"It incites violence out on the streets - the streets that they don't have to walk home from work on or get the night bus home alone on. It normalises it and gives other people the green light to disconnect from other humans and treat them in this way. It's so, so, dangerous and there's this lack of trust for me now. If that's what he says in public, what does he say about other minorities behind closed doors."
