PS5’s biggest 2023 exclusive is about to get even better very soon, as developer Insomniac Games has revealed when its largest update yet will arrive.

One of last year’s biggest PS5 exclusive titles, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, turned out to be well worth the wait. Wholeheartedly letting players step into the tights of the titular wall-crawler. It was a superpowered sequel in almost every way – but there was one particular feature the PlayStation audience was left craving soon after finishing credits. The lack of a true New Game Plus mode at launch was a letdown for many, true, but Insomniac Games plans on resolving this very soon.

In a tweet from its official @insomniacgames Twitter account, the studio announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s “Next update is coming March 7”. That’s when players can look forward to jumping back into the game with a boatload of "Highly request features added”. These highly requested features being “New Game+, new suits, and more”. Insomniac’s sequel already touts a staggering 78 in-game suits to unlock, but you can seemingly never have too many.

Insomniac didn’t state the nature of how the upcoming New Game Plus will work, or what new suits Peter Parker and Miles Morales will soon be able to adorn. However, the studio did sign off with a tease to watch its “Social media for a complete list of features closer to release”. March 7, 2024, is now less than a month away, so we won’t have to wait very long to learn the nature of what appears to be the most substantial post-launch update Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has seen yet.

Anything a spider can

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was one of the standout AAA games of last year for me. In my review, I called it “a superhero sequel story full of delight and surprises” for the way it improved on 2018’s original Marvel’s Spider-Man in almost every way. The fact that Insomniac Games is going above and beyond to continue to support what is a single-player game in this way is therefore exciting.

New Game Plus alone would have been enough to inspire me to re-install the game on my PS5. But the promise of new suits to unlock? It’s hard to be disappointed, especially since past suit additions have shown how much care Insomniac puts into how each suit is lit and moves in the world. The first game eventually went on to receive follow-up story DLC in the form of Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps. Currently, no equivalent has been announced for the sequel.
