DJ and TV host Roman Kemp says the Tories “don’t care” about young people’s mental health problems.

He spoke out after accusing the Government of not keeping promises after he made a film on the subject. In January mental health campaign Here4You was launched and backed by the Mirror. But Roman, 31, who fronted a special broadcast for it, said: “The Government seemingly does not care because they aren’t doing anything.

“I would like to see mental health support teams in every school. What is the point in doing something if you don’t want the best outcome? The Government will say they are happy with 50% as a target but any child is pressurised beyond belief. They are told, ‘You must get 100% in exams’. I spoke to high-up people at No10. It is something they can promise to my face but will they action it?”

Roman, who has attention deficit disorder, was speaking on the set of his BBC quiz The Finish Line he fronts with Sarah Greene.

This week it was revealed the number of children referred for emergency mental healthcare in England has soared by 53% in three years. A Department of Health spokesman told the Mirror: “We are determined to support children and young people with their mental health, which is why we are investing an additional £2.3billion a year into NHS mental health services.”

The Finish Line is due to air this year on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer.
