Brentford boss Thomas Frank has offered Christian Eriksen the chance to make an extraordinary return to the Bees and end his struggles at Manchester United.

Eriksen joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 after an impressive six-month stay at Brentford. Frank helped the midfielder to resurrect his career after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening game of Euro 2020.

But rather than extend his stay in London, Eriksen took up the opportunity of joining United on a free transfer. He was a regular during Erik ten Hag's first season in charge of the Red Devils, though missed the Carabao Cup final win through injury.

And injury problems have stunted his second season at Old Trafford, with Eriksen missing nine games in total. The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo has also see him drop down the pecking order, leading to suggestions the midfielder may look to depart.

If he does attempt to make an exit in the summer window, then Frank has now put Brentford forward as a possible destination. He told Tipsbladet: "He will always be welcome back! Christian will always be. I think he knows that well. And we know he had a good time here.

"I understood well why he went to United back then, and I've said that publicly. I also think he's done well. Of course, he had an injury before Christmas for a while. But if Christian wants, he's very welcome."

Frank's offer comes as Fotomac report that Eriksen has held 'secret talks' with Galatasaray over a potential move. The Turkish transfer window remains open until later this week, with The Lions turning their eye to Eriksen.

The deal would take the form of a loan deal with an option to make it permanent in the summer. Mainoo, Scott McTominay and Casemiro have all moved ahead of Eriksen in the pecking order, though the Dane's contract runs for another 18 months.

Eriksen has previously hinted that he has grown unhappy with his lack of game-time. Back in October, the Dane insisted he was ready to step up to help the team and any questions about his absence should be directed to Ten Hag.

“I think you should ask the coach what he thinks. We have been hit hard by injuries in defence. We have simply conceded too many goals. I was sick last week, but I’m doing fine. I don’t have any flaws," he said.

"The body feels good and of course I want to play every game. But if you have seen the matches yourself, you may also see that [Ten Hag] plays with slightly different types than me."

Ten Hag though has insisted Eriksen remains a key part of his plans. The United boss said in December: "We have some returns that are very useful. The one we are pleased to have is the return of Christian Eriksen in the squad.

"We also have doubts; we had some illness in the week, so we will have to see how they recover tomorrow. But one thing is sure, we will put a good line-up on the pitch and we have to win the game."
