Strictly pro Johannes Radebe’s memoir JoJo: Finally Home is being adapted as a family movie, complete with musical numbers choreographed by the man himself.

Johannes has appeared on the series since 2018 and came second with Bake Off star John Whaite in 2021, and before that he performed on the South African version of the show. Last year, he released a bestselling book detailing his journey from growing up in the township Zamdela, where he tells how he played with Barbie dolls, and documents his rise to stardom via the ballroom.

He says of the upcoming biopic: “Growing up gay in the townships of South Africa was not an easy ride, but there were so many good things about my life there, and it has made me the person I am today. I never imagined my story would end up on the big screen, so I am greatly appreciative of this new opportunity.”

He added he will be “working closely” with the Oscar-nominated South African producers Helena Spring Films who are adapting his story. According to Deadline, the film, which has a working title of Finally Home, will not fully be a musical, but will be “packed with heart, great music, wonderful costumes and big dance numbers,” according to producers.

Announcing the news on Instagram on Tuesday night, Johannes told his followers: "Lights, camera and action! I am thrilled to announce that my memoir JoJo: Finally Home is being adapted into a movie. Partly filmed in South Africa, the movie follows my journey from a little boy to the glitz and glamour of the ballroom and will celebrate the wonderful people who are a part of my life and I am so grateful to.
