Brits have been enjoying the warmer weather in Spain, while spending less in local pubs and bars, according to the digital bank Monzo.

The bank's data shows that travel-related spending increased by 12% in January compared to last year, with Ryanair being the most popular airline. Spain was the top holiday destination for customers who travelled in January, which saw record-high temperatures.

Australia, the US and the United Arab Emirates also made it to the top 10 list of destinations. Meanwhile, spending on outings to venues like bars, pubs and nightclubs fell by 11% during January, suggesting more people might have participated in Dry January.

Not On The High Street reported that sales of non-alcoholic drinks more than doubled last month compared to January 2023, as people explored new brands selling alternative beers, wines and spirits. Monzo has revealed that the number of fitness-related Pots increased by a whopping 90% last month.

The bank's customers have been finding "fun and savvy" ways to achieve their goals for the year, according to Sujata Bhatia, Monzo's chief operating officer. She added: "it's clear they're kicking off the year thinking about putting every penny they can towards the things that matter to them".
