Erik ten Hag may have had some frutrations after the win over Wolves

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has had to endure a number of headaches during a turbulent season at Old Trafford, but morale is high after Thursday's last-gasp win at Wolves.

Man of the moment Kobbie Mainoo was on hand to rifle home a 97th minute winner to relieve some of the brewing tension in the red half of Manchester. Despite that, United do still linger seventh in the Premier League table and have seen the January transfer window pass them by without making any signings.

Ten Hag had previously expressed an interest in bolstering his attacking options, but conceded that Financial Fair Play rules make that a difficult ask. As a result, the Red Devils will have to achieve their ambitions for the rest of the season with what they currently have in terms of squad members, while the FA Cup is their last realistic hope of any silverware.

Here are some of the main headlines emerging out of Old Trafford on Saturday, February 29.

Neville left red-faced

Gary Neville's early season assessment of Scott McTominay's Manchester United prospects have not played out exactly as the club legend predicted.

After the Scotland international was left on the bench for the 2-0 defeat by Tottenham in August, Neville claimed that Ten Hag was perhaps doing his best to show McTominay his days at the club are numbered.

He told Sky Sports: "With Fernandes on the right, the midfield looks all over the place and the front three doesn't look capable of functioning as one. Does he go back to McTominay? Ten Hag has made five substitutions and not used him. It's almost as if he is managing him out of the club."

Six months down the line, McTominay is United's leading goalscorer in the league and has waxed lyrical over what life is like at Old Trafford under the guidance of Ten Hag.

Ten Hag's frustration

Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand has warned the Red Devils boss he needs to "sort out" his side's game management after the late collapse against Wolves almost cost them all three points.

The TNT Sports pundit explained Ten Hag's post-match interview was evidence of the Dutchman's own frustrations at his side's performance, despite praising his team for rescuing a win.

" Manchester United will have to sort this out," Ferdinand claimed "They have to be concentrated at these stages of the game.

"They were 2-0 up and cruising at this stage of the game and you could see the frustration in the interview from Erik ten Hag, they have to manage those moments and get through those sticky moments away from home - they didn’t do that well enough today."

He explained: "There, I am thinking, I know I’m not allowed to swear but I’m thinking oh s***. It’s a great goal, but we need to sort those situations out better and I was fuming on the bench."

Hojlund may have started the season slowly, but his strike at the Molinuex now means he has three goals in his last four league outings for the Red Devils.
