Fearful Claudia Winkleman says she had to call her husband in a panic from The Traitors set thinking the programme was about to bomb, which is unbelievable considering its record-breaking popularity.
The BBC show's host didn't ever think the hit show would go down as well as it has and put the case forward to bosses that they must make just one series. The presenter admits that she wasn't at all keen on the idea of following up last year's debut show because she was worried they couldn't recreate the magic.
Claudia joined Ed Gamble for an extended final episode of The Traitors: Uncloaked and she was asked about following the huge success of the first series. She explained that she feared the first one would flop too and told more about her gut feeling that they shouldn't return for a second year.
When asking about the huge success of series one, Claudia said: “We didn’t think it was going to do well. So I have a pair of fingerless gloves and a ceremonial pouch and I phoned my husband saying, ‘It’s all over’... and when that did well, I did say to the BBC bosses let’s just leave that, because we can’t do it again. It was like a perfect first kiss!”
Speaking about the matter to Alex Jones and Lauren Laverne on The One Show on Thursday, she said: "After the first series I just thought that's more than enough. The first series was so overwhelming for us. I just thought it was so perfect, just leave it. It was lovely. But the BBC were like 'no, what's the matter with you'. I'm still nervous!"
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessWhen talking about her highlights from the series, Claudia told Ed last night: “I thought Ross throwing a rose into his mother’s grave was a moment I didn’t foresee… and I’m wearing a Supremes T-shirt tonight!” Fans have loved every minute of the show as they demand Claudia is given a gong for her performance in the castle.
The final was gripping and after snatching all the cash, Harry has angered fans with one comment he made about the near £100,000 prize he bagged after saying in a previous episode that he and his family couldn't afford to go out for a meal. Asked on Uncloaked what he'd do with all that money, he said: "23-years old with that much money! I can’t even explain it.
"Money never makes me happy. I’ve never needed money. As long as I have a roof over my head, food, water, my family and my other half, that’s all I need. That money is going to treat them, everything my mum and dad have done for me as kids, and they’ve given me everything I’ve needed, to be able to give them something in return is the best thing ever."
