The Met Office has forecast a brisk "change in weather" for this weekend, after an Arctic blast smashed the UK earlier in the week.

Milder air will slowly move across the country on Saturday and Sunday, giving way to slightly warmer weather.

It'll be accompanied by some wet and windy conditions, however, and a deep area of low pressure will filter in from the Atlantic.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain, covering almost all of the UK, on Sunday. The warning for heavy rain, combined with strong winds, lasts from 6am for 24 hours, up until Monday morning.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Hayter said: “Conditions will stay cold on Friday but a change in weather type is on the way, bringing milder air for the UK during the course of the weekend.

“This change will initially be relatively benign in terms of weather impacts, with a dry Friday and start to Saturday for many in the south of the UK. The Atlantic influence will then introduce some wet and windy weather, with a deep area of low pressure approaching from the west on Sunday.

“While detail is still being worked out, we expect windy weather for many and some heavy rain in the west and so we’ve issued warnings for Sunday for wind and rain. Watch out for updates to these warnings on Friday and Saturday as the forecast develops.”

The Southwest was forecast to receive the warmest temperatures throughout the weekend, according to latest weather maps.

It could reach 12C by 3pm on Sunday in Devon and Belfast, while the Midlands was forecast 10C.

It'll remain particularly chilly in the Southeast and the very north of Scotland, however. It could drop down to 3C in the early mornings around Kent, while some areas in Scotland could hit freezing.
