A British student attending college in America has reveaed the silliest things people have said to him since he moved across the pond. Pete, who goes by the name of @ptwpage on TikTok, told his 64.6k followers the top three silliest phrases that have been said to him as a “British person who goes to college in the United States,” in a video that has since gone viral, amassing more than 1.4m views.

He captioned the clip: 'There are so many more I could say, but these were definitely the worst,’ before beginning by telling how he was once complimented on his English despite being 'European.'

He said: “I had a person come up to me and say considering I'm European, my English is really good. And when I told them that was because I'm from England, they said, ‘Yeah but my friend is European and he speaks way worse English.’ And his friend was from France.”

Second on his list was that Americans seemed to get Australian and English accents confused, revealing that one of his American friends had said to him: "'Oh you’re from the UK, that’s like Australia right?' And I said no, that’s like the UK. She then said aren't those not the same thing?"

Lastly, he told how his American friends didn't believe that he was from a village in the UK, or that villages even existed: “When I told my friend that I lived in a village, I then had to convince him for the next hour that a village is not just from Minecraft and I wasn't messing with him and villages actually existed in the outside world.”

The viral video received more than 2k comments, with many expressing their shock at the stories. One said: “Wait does America not have villages?” while another said: ”You have to remember that college in the US is like primary school in England.”

One person questioned: “How are they in college,” while another revealed that had been asked if they had toilets and electricity in France. One reader from Ireland also said he had been asked if he’d met a Leprechaun ‘about 600 times.’ Another commented: “I'm convinced they learn nothing about the rest of the world in school. These are wild.”
