Gary Neville has called once again for a regulator to come in to help fans who are watching their clubs spiral out of control following Reading's pitch invasion on Saturday.

Supporters at the Select Car Leasing Stadium poured onto the pitch in the first-half, which eventually saw their League One clash with Port Vale abandoned. Reading are facing a second successive relegation following several points deductions under owner Dai Yongge.

Royals fans have called for the owner to sell-up amid continued financial problems and Neville, who has continued to rally against the Glazers at Manchester United, wants to see more done to help fans in situations where their clubs are being impacted.

He said on his podcast: "No, (it wasn't pretty), but I think what it shows, and we've seen it over the past few years, is that fans will stand up for what they believe is right. They won't accept these types of things anymore. We're still sat in a period where the Premier League haven't done a deal with the EFL, the regulators are still in denial.

"We need that regulator, we need that situation resolved so we can get some control in the game and get power in the right hands. It seems that fans are helpless to solve these situations. My heart and thoughts go to the Reading fans. They're feeling desperate, but there should be a resolution available to them."

Neville has continued to take fire at the Glazers, with plenty accusing him of banging the same drum, at times unnecessarily. Their lack of presence and investment has occurred during a decade that has seen United struggle to compete and build up massive debt.

He's been outspoken on all of his various platforms and was criticised after fans at his own club mobilised to storm Old Trafford several years ago before a game with Liverpool. Anger has peaked against the American owners in recent years - with Neville cited as an issue.

Simon Jordan previously said on TalkSport: "I don’t care what people like Gary Neville come out with, calling on a lynch mob and start talking about how there is an entitlement for fans to do this - no way is there an entitlement to attack police officers, no way is there an entitlement to break into a football pitch, climb onto goals, break into hospitality and smash up environments purely and simply because you think you’ve got a cause."
