Manchester United are yet to make a new signing in the January transfer window and manager Erik ten Hag has admitted the club are limited in what they can do due to Financial Fair Play rules.

Speaking ahead of United's game against Tottenham, Ten Hag said they cannot afford to turn their noses up at signing players on loan. "You always have to consider such choices," the Dutchman told reporters.

"When such opportunities come up, we have to take them. At the same time, you have to analyse what we have on board, what is coming up." With that in mind, Mirror Football has taken a look at the latest transfer news coming out of Old Trafford

Greenwood opens up on future

Mason Greenwood insists he's "happy" at Getafe. The England international, 22, will enter the final 12 months of his contract at United once his loan season-long spell at the Spanish club ends this summer and is expected to complete a permanent transfer.

Getafe are interested in signing Greenwood on a long-term deal, but Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also keeping tabs on him. Yet the forward, who has scored five goals this term, wants to focus on his football after being named Getafe's Player of the Month.

"Everything’s fine," Greenwood told Getafe's YouTube channel after receiving his prize. "I adapted pretty quickly. Teammates took me under their wing and I’ve just been happy ever since, coming here and training, playing the games. I’m happy."

He added: "The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far is when I scored my first goal here at the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot. Also we had the training day and a lot of fans came out to watch so we always appreciate the fans. They’re like an extra man out there on the pitch when they’re out there supporting us."

Brobbey interest

United are looking to strengthen their attacking options and Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is on their radar, despite previously rejecting the chance to join the club.

Brobbey has impressed since rejoining Ajax after a disappointing stint in Germany with RB Leipzig and has now revealed he turned down an opportunity to join United in 2022 in order to return to Amsterdam instead. "Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary," Brobbey said.

"But our decision was clear: we wanted to go to Ajax. Manchester Unitedwanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause."

Ratcliffe eyes £100m deal

Manchester United are set to initiate talks early this year in a bid to sign teenage superstar Joao Neves from Benfica this summer.

The holding midfielder, who only turned 19 in September, has established himself as a regular this term in the Portuguese champions under coach Roger Schmidt.

Neves has racked up 27 appearances in all competitions and has also made his senior debut for Portugal this season, earning three caps in Euro 2024 qualifying.
