Transfer news live - Chelsea's cut-price Dybala option, Arsenal chase Onana

The January transfer window has now been open for just over a week at the cogs are just about starting to turn.

The buzzword for clubs this month has been strikers as each club attempts to bolster their respective attacks. Arsenal are the most in need and continue to be linked with Brentford star Ivan Toney.

Manchester United are in the same position and have been linked to a host of forwards including Timo Werner. However, he appears set to move to Tottenham. The Red Devils are in the meantime in the process of bidding farewell to Jadon Sancho, who is on the verge of a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Moving to Liverpool and they too need a new forward. Kylian Mbappe remains an expensive option and the French forward finally appears to have made up his mind on his future amid more talk over Mo Salah.

Adebayor "praying" Osimhen moves to Premier League

Emmanuel Adebayor has backed Victor Osimhen to take the Premier League by storm.

The Napoli striker has long been linked with a move to England, but his £112million release clause has stopped that from happening so far. Chelsea are among the clubs monitoring him and former Arsenal star Adebayor thinks he'd flourish if the move went ahead.

“He has the right attitude, mentality and determination to excel there [in England],” Adebayor told BBC Sport Africa. “I’m praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he’s capable of. The Premier League is the toughest and best [league] in the world.

“Osimhen has shown and done it already in Italy, I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol Drogba and do beautiful things. He has all it takes to make a name and write a great chapter in England like Drogba.”

Genoa want £20million for the Romania international and both clubs are interested. Spurs want a centre-back after losing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero to injury and are waiting to land a new defender before they allow Eric Dier to leave.

Dragusin, 21, came through the ranks at Juventus before making a loan switch to Genoa ahead of the 2022/23 season before the move was made permanent midway through the campaign.

Dortmund chief explains Sancho hold up

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has explained why the loan deal for Jadon Sancho has not been completed.

Dortmund want to take Sancho on loan until the end of the season and want him to join their warm weather training camp in Marbella, but the deal has not been concluded yet.

"The issue is no longer with us," he told reporters. "We are in good communication with Manchester United. I am cautiously optimistic. We want to bring [Sancho] over, but we are not yet at the point where we can announce results."

Henderson 'offered to Bayern'

Jordan Henderson has been offered to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

Henderson wants out of Al-Ettifaq after just six months and is desperately exploring his options. Leaving Saudi Arabia so soon will cost him financially, but he is still keen to leave Steven Gerrard's side in the lurch.

Juve 'end interest' in Phillips and Hojbjerg

Juventus won't be signing Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips or Tottenham's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this month, according to The Sun.

Juve are on the lookout for a central midfielder and both are available. But they are reportedly too expensive for the Old Lady.

Pochettino gives update on striker search

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that he is happy with Chelsea's options up front amid rumours the club are looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

Christopher Nkunku is out injured again and Chelsea are also without Nicolas Jackson, who is away on international duty for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations. Chelsea have been linked with Napoli star Victor Osimhen and Brentford's Ivan Toney, among others, but Pochettino says he is content with what he's got.

"We had a conversation with the owners and sporting directors today and yesterday," he said. "I am so happy because we have [Armando] Broja, we have [Cole] Palmer who can play centre-forward we have different players that can play in the striker position and Chelsea needs our second line players to help the team score goals and win games. I am very positive and happy with the squad. If something appears, we will announce. It is not necessary to sell to buy some players."

Salah's agent stirs the pot

Mohamed Salah is away on AFCON duty with Egypt, but the January transfer window stands still for no man.

His agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has stirred the pot on social media by replying to a report suggesting he is open to leaving. He replied with: "You just don't know."

What of that what you will.

Lingard offers himself to Barcelona

Jesse Lingard has been without a club since being released by Nottingham Forest in June - but he is still aiming high.

Lingard has flirted with West Ham and Al-Ettifaq this season, but reports in Spain suggest he believes Barcelona represent a 'good springboard' back into the game. The 31-year-old is pitching himself as an affordable option to bolster Xavi's squad mid-season. It seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened!

The England midfielder has been tipped to return to Europe, just a few months after leaving Liverpool for Saudi Pro League side Al=Ettifaq.

How Liverpool's Mbappe hopes have diminished

Pochettino gives Chelsea transfer update

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino oversaw a busy summer transfer window but the Blues might not be done just yet.

Moises Caicedo was the highest-profile summer arrival, while fellow signings Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku have yet to properly feature due to injury, and Paulo Dybala is among those linked with a January move.

Chelsea have already loaned out Alex Matos this month, with Ian Maatsen also expected to spend the remainder of the season away from Stamford Bridge, and Pochettino has explained the current state of play when it comes to ins and outs.

"We are assessing the squad, like always," Pochettino told reporters. "We had a conversation with the owners and sporting director yesterday and today.

"We are looking, like the other teams, for opportunities."

Hull land Carvalho after Liverpool recall youngster

Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho has joined ambitious Championship side Hull for the rest of the season.

Hull have pulled off a transfer coup by landing Carvalho after Liverpool cut short his loan at RB Leipzig because 12 of his 15 appearances for the Bundesliga side were off the bench.

Liverpool have good relations with the Tigers and the Reds are impressed by the way they are developing Tyler Morton during his loan spell at the MKM Stadium.

Carvalho, 21, who cost Liverpool £7.7million from Fulham in July 2022, is in line to make his Hull debut against Norwich on Friday.

Leeds' Koch set for permanent exit

Leeds are set to lose Robin Koch for nothing when his contract at Elland Road expires in the summer.

Koch, 27, triggered a release clause when Leeds were relegated last summer to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan and is now ready to sign a pre-contract agreement to join the Bundesliga side permanently.

The centre-half cost Leeds £11.7million from Freiburg in August 2020 and the Elland Road outfit will be gutted to lose him on a Bosman this summer.

Koch wants to stay in his native Germany and said: “I feel very comfortable here and have thought about the decision very carefully.

“Before the move, I also asked some players what it was like here. So far, expectations have even been exceeded.”

Koch, who can also play as a holding midfielder, has made 23 appearances for Frankfurt to force his way into Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany plans for Euro 2024.

West Ham sales unliklely after Antonio blow

Michail Antonio is set for another month on the sidelines as West Ham’s injury problems mount up.

The striker suffered a setback on his return from a knee ligament injury after feeling discomfort during a training session last Friday.

Antonio sustained the injury while on duty for Jamaica in November and will now not return until at least February.

That update comes off the back of star attackers Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta sustaining ankle and knee injuries in Sunday’s draw against Bristol City.

Both will have scans this week to determine the severity of their issues.

But their potential absence means the Hammers are now less likely to allow Danny Ings and Said Benrahma to leave in the January transfer window.

Defender Dinos Mavropanos also hurt his ribs during the FA Cup tie, while Nayef Aguerd and Mohammed Kudus are at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Branthwaite eyed by Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti is keen to raid former club Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite, according to The Mail.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was at Goodison Park when Branthwaite joined from Carlisle, handing the centre-back his debut in 2020.

The Spanish side are after reinforcements after losing Eder Militao and David Alaba to long-term injuries, while Manchester United and Tottenham have also been linked with Premier League regular Branthwaite.

DONE DEAL: Spurs confirm Phillips loan exit

Tottenham youngster Ashley Phillips has joined Championship side Plymouth on loan, the club have confirmed.

Centre-back Phillips has been allowed to leave following the return from injury of senior defender Micky van de Ven.

The 18-year-old was on the bench for Spurs' last three Premier League games, and was also an unused substitute for the FA Cup victory over Burnley.

Phillips made eight Championship appearances for Blackburn last season before completing a move to Tottenham, but is still yet to make his senior bow for Ange Postecoglou's team.

Mbappe statement disputes exit

Kylian Mbappe's representatives have moved to deny the fact that he has 'agreed' a deal with Real Madrid.

Reports earlier today claimed that he had finally agreed a Bosman move to the Bernabeu at the end of his PSG contract.

A statement read: "There is no agreement about Kylian's future, especially as there are no discussions underway about it. No type of influence could dictate the timing of Kylian's discussions, reflections or decisions."

Arsenal hold Onana talks

While Spurs might be set to lose out on a deal for Radu Dragusin, their neighbours Arsenal could be set to seal a major deal.

According to reports, the Gunners have ramped up talks with Everton to try and sign Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana. It is suggested that he is open to a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Onana has played 21 times for the Toffees this season and has three-and-a-half years left on his contract.

Bayern to hijack Spurs' Dragusin deal

Tottenham could face increased competition for the signing of Genoa star Radu Dragusin.

The North Londoners are attempting to get a deal for the Romanian over the line this month but talks appear to have come to a standstill. Now, Bayern could steal in.

That is according to reports in both Romania and Germany, who suggest that the Bundesliga champions want him to ease their defensive injury worries and they would be willing to pay the £30m required to sign Dragusin.

Schar pens new Newcastle deal

Newcastle have confirmed that defender Fabian Schar has penned a new deal until 2025.

He previously saw his deal expire this summer. "I've said it a lot of times, but I feel really at home here," he said after signing his new deal.

"I feel so comfortable living in Newcastle; I love the city and I love playing for the club and the incredible fans. I can't say enough how much I love them, and how much their support means to me."

PSG unaware of Mbappe 'agreement'

Amid reports that Kylian Mbappe is on his way to Real Madrid at the end of the season, PSG have broken their silence on a potential deal.

According to RMC Sport, PSG have claimed that they are not aware of any agreement between the striker and the Spanish giants. Even if the two parties have settled on a move, the French club have not been informed that Mbappe has made a decision over his future.

Birmingham announce Mowbray as new boss

Sticking in the Championship, Bimringham City have finally found their replacement for Wayne Rooney.

The Blues have announced Tony Mowbray as their new boss. He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at St Andrews.
