A man dubbed 'Dull Dave' has claimed the Anorak of the Year crown due to his obsession with travelling hundreds of miles to visit the best rubbish bins in the UK.

Dave Clark, from Caister, Norfolk, has lifted the lid on his odd love and says he's honoured to claim the title.

The 52-year-old was just seven when his dad took him to visit a rubbish dump for the very first time.

He has photographed dozens of his favourite bins across the country ever since, where he rates them according to size, location and design.

Now he's been recognised by the Dull Men's Club, a popular 10,000-strong online community which boasts members ranging from a man who collects milk bottles to someone who follows brown tourist signs.

Dave has beaten them all and urged anyone with different interests to most people to go out and explore them.

"I was very honoured to receive the award, with the Dull Men's Club celebrating the ordinary things in life," he said.

"It's important for everyone to take a step back and look at the world around you."

Grover Click, founder and assistant vice president of the club, paid tribute, saying: "Dave is doing something meaningful. He's passionate about it. There's not a bin you could put in front of him he couldn't comment on.

"He's clearly adhering to our motto of celebrating the ordinary."

The dad-of-two, nicknamed ‘Dustbin Dave' by friends, collects photographs of his favourites and launched a quest to uncover Britain’s best dustbin.

He claims his wife and children totally accept his "wacky" hobby as he documents dozens of his favourite bins in the UK.

He said: “I’m after the totally unique ones. If it’s unusual then I’ll take a picture.

“If you see a fun bin it makes you smile as you walk past.

“The perfect outdoor bin has a big opening and is medium size - you don’t want it massive.

“It needs to be nice and colourful with a wacky design. “I’m looking for something that stands out. Nice and bright colours.

“But at the end of the day you can’t beat a classic council bin.”
