Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds enjoyed a reunion with self-confessed Red Dragons fan Hugh Jackman as the Hollywood pair sat down to watch the team's FA Cup clash.

The world-famous actors are due to star together in ' Deadpool 3 ' and have a long-running friendship going back to their days filming 2009 blockbuster 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'. The off-screen pals have regularly attended sports games with each other in recent years - including watching the Kansas City Chiefs in action alongside Taylor Swift last year.

However, these days it is not uncommon for the pair to bond over their shared love of all things Wrexham, with Australian movie star making the trip to the Racecourse Ground back in August. In that instance, Jackman took in the North Wales outfit's first game back in League Two in 15 years versus MK Dons.

In his capacity as chairman, Reynolds even gave his friend the honorary title of 'Admiral Vice Football Operations Ombudsman' for the club during his visit. Now, the duo have repeated the feat, as they sat down to watch the Dragons face Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round.

Taking to Instagram, 'The Proposal' funnyman Reynolds posted a picture of the pair sitting down on the sofa as they prepared to cheer on their team at home. In his typical tongue-in-cheek tone, the Canadian comedian uploaded the snap along with the caption: "Watching Wrexham in the Emirates FA Cup with Prisoner 24601."

The quip was in reference to Jackman's famous role in 2012 big-screen musical 'Les Misérables', with fans joining in with some humorous responses of their own. One replied: "Your dad looks a little confused. Is this his first time watching soccer/football", while another provided a 'Les Mis' themed response, saying: "As long as Hugh breaks out in song pleading for the loaf of bread we’re set."

When it comes to the game itself, Wrexham were looking to repeat their steadfast efforts of last year, where they beat second tier side Coventry City before taking Premier League-bound Sheffield United to a fourth round replay. Taking on League One outfit Shrewsbury Town in the third round this time, their opponents posed a stern test.

Before kick-off, Shrewsbury defender Tom Flanagan fired a warning their way on BBC Radio Shropshire, saying: "I’m big on the respect thing between football clubs, but let’s make it known, they’re a League Two team, they’re coming here as a League Two team. Other League Two teams have been here and we’ve beaten them. So the expectation is that we beat them, whether it’s a local derby or not, they’re a League Two team."

Wrexham head coach Phil Parkinson refused to be dragged into any mind games by his former Sunderland colleague, though, saying: "He [Flanagan] is only saying that they are League One and we are League Two, and that's a fact. Of course, the team mid-table in League One and doing reasonably well are going to be favourites against a team a division below."

Eventually, the reigning National League champions worked their magic in the Cup once again, as they secured a 1-0 win over their local rivals. A single strike from Wrexham's Thomas O'Connor was enough to separate the two teams as the Dragons booked their fourth round place.
