King Charles is reportedly "hurt" by Prince Harry not returning to the UK with his grandchildren "for a long time" a commentator has claimed.

Despite their father making multiple trips, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet did not visit England in 2023 and royal commentator Michael Cole told GB News that the King will be upset by the lack of time he has been able to spend with his grandchildren, having reportedly met Lilibet just once.

Cole said: "I think the King feels hurt by the fact that he does not see his grandchildren in California. It would be quite natural for any man to wish to see his grandchildren. I know for a fact that the King is very keen. He loves his children, he loves his grandchildren, he loves his godchildren. The fact he does not see Archie and Lilibet and that is not his wish, will be very upsetting to him. It will be a long time before Prince Harry returns to the country with his children."

Prince Harry has told a court he wants his children to "feel at home" in the UK but they cannot if "it's not possible to keep them safe." Calling the UK his home, despite having lived in the US for several years, the Duke of Sussex said it was "with great sadness" that he and his wife Meghan "felt forced" to leave the country in 2020.

At a hearing a month ago, his barrister, Shaheed Fatima KC, said references by the Home Office's lawyers to the prince no longer being a full-time working royal were "often said in a way that emphasised choice".

She read out an excerpt of a statement written by Harry as part of his case, in which he said: "It was with great sadness for both of us that my wife and I felt forced to step back from this role and leave the country in 2020. The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the US. That cannot happen if it's not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil. I cannot put my wife in danger like that and, given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm's way too."
