Tottenham's likely line-up with Timo Werner as Chelsea flop set to join Spurs

Timo Werner is poised to seal a sensational return to the Premier League amid interest from Manchester United - but he's not heading to Old Trafford.

Instead, it's Tottenham who are edging closer to a deal for the former Chelsea striker, who has been given the green light to leave RB Leipzig after returning to Germany in the summer of 2022.

Werner, 27, will join Spurs on loan for the remainder of the season in a deal which will include an option to make the switch permanent should he impress. And with Son Heung-min away at the Asian Cup for the next few weeks, Tottenham's frontline could have a very different look to it until his return in February.

In goal, Guglielmo Vicario has quickly established himself as one of the top-flight's leading goalkeepers and is unlikely to be dislodged anytime soon. Ahead of him, Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro have been revelations in the full-back positions.

Summer signing Micky van de Ven enjoyed an impressive start to the season before getting injured but is back in the frame and will return to the heart of Tottenham's defence. Christian Romero is currently sidelined but will join him in due course.

There could be increased competition for places sooner rather than later given Spurs are in talks to sign Genoa defender Rady Dragusin. If a deal can be done, the Romanian defender is likely to partner Van de Ven in the coming weeks.

Pape Matar Sarr has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign after being given a prominent role by Ange Postecoglou and Rodrigo Bentancur is also a given in the engine room after his impressive return from injury. Giovanni Lo Celso is likely to join them with James Maddison not due back from injury anytime soon.

In attack, Richarlison has been operating centrally but could shift back out to a wide role once the deal to bring Werner to north London has been concluded. Such a move would allow Werner to operate down the middle.

Dejan Kulusevski is versatile enough to fill the final spot in Spurs' attack on the opposite flank to accomodate Werner, although the Leipzig man is also capable of playing cross the frontline.

How Tottenham could line-up: Vicario, Porro, Van de Ven, Dragusin, Udogie, Sarr, Bentancur, Lo Celso, Richarlison, Werner, Kulusevski.
