A motorist has been caught on camera speeding through a puddle which soaked a binman stood at the side of the road.

Members of the public were outraged by the incident, which left a binman attempting to clear up the streets following a particularly busy festive period drenched. Some even demanded police action as retired cop Julie Lancaster recalled the incident, saying a black car pulled up out of nowhere to spritz water everywhere.

The soaking worker was left covered in water during Storm Henk, which battered the country earlier this week with rapid winds and a downpour which left dozens facing off against the grim weather conditions.

Footage of the drenching has since been published, with the binman desperately trying to shield himself from the impromptu shower with bits of cardboard he had collected on his rounds. Instead, he was left soaked from head to toe by the black car which rushed through a massive puddle near to the bin and worker.

Former Hampshire police officer Julie was urged by members of the public to report it to the police. Motorists who splash pedestrians can be fined up to £5,000. The incident had been recorded by Julie's dashcam as she waited for the car to pass through the tight road where the binman's van had also been parked. Locals were outraged and called on Julie to report the "inconsiderate" motorist. She had been driving home from the dry cleaners when she saw the incident unfold.

Despite recording the incident, she says the recording was too slow to pick up the license plate of the offending vehicle and did not make out the make or model of the car either. She added: "This poor man must have been absolutely drenched. It was so inconsiderate." The binman featured in the video returned to work straight away after being splashed with the horror puddle waters.
