EastEnders' Kellie Bright left her co-stars stunned when she revealed herself as the killer.
Over the past ten months, fans have been anxiously waiting to find out the identity of the mystery killer and her victim following a flash-forward scene which aired in February. But on Christmas Day, this all came to an end as viewers tuned in to witness the most dramatic storyline on the soap come to a climax.
But in true EastEnders fashion, despite viewers seeing Denise Fox (Dianne Parish) whack Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) over the back of the head, initially leading us to believe she was the killer, bosses had a major twist planned. As Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) attempted to get upstairs at the Queen Vic, strangling Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) in his way, Linda Carter (Kellie) stabbed him with a carving fork – leaving viewers stunned.
Kellie also left her co-stars completely speechless as she unmasked herself as the killer. Previously, two murders were filmed, with both a man and a woman dying. In a 15-minute spin-off, titled EastEnders: The Six – Whodunnit, former star Joe Swash appeared alongside the six women as he asked the killer to step forward.
As Kellie stepped forward, Lacey Turner, Balvinder Sopal, Diane Parish, Letitia and Gillian Taylforth couldn't believe the revelation as they gasped aloud. "I knew it!" said Diane, as Letitia exclaimed: "What did we say?!" Fans have since taken to social media to share their shock over Kellie's revelation.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likeness"I'm living for Lacey's absolute state of shock," said one. As a second penned: "This reveal and all of their reactions is just as good as the actual show!" Another added: "The way they are all so excited, my God this is so amazing!" "Lacey being so shocked is so funny. I love her," tweeted another.
In a clip which was shown on the spin-off show, executive producer Chris Clenshaw was seen pulling Kellie aside for a secret meeting, where she discovered Linda's fate. Kellie said: "Are you joking? Oh no. I don't mind being the murderer. Oh Jesus, why have you done this to me? I didn't see that coming."
However, she was even more shocked to discover that she was killing Keanu, who at the time, was embroiled in a complicated relationship with her best friend, Sharon. Elsewhere, Chris admitted he was "incredibly pleased" by how viewers have been gripped on the storyline for almost a year.
He said: "It's been a long time in the making and the Christmas Day reveal really is an episode to watch live on Christmas Day. We're thrilled with the buzz around The Six. It's exactly what we hoped for; we hoped people would chat, we hoped people would speculate, we hoped that everyone would come up with their own theories and share those theories with one another. We wanted it to be a storyline that brings the viewers together too, and we're over the moon that it seems to be doing that and the audience are enjoying being a part of it."
EastEnders returns to BBC One on December 26 at 8:25pm.
