Flog It! and Bargain Hunt presenter Charles Hanson won't appear on any BBC show in the "imminent future", according to insiders.

The Mirror understands the auctioneer isn't classed as a BBC employee and isn't scheduled to host any upcoming productions after being charged with seven alleged offences. He is due to appear in court next month after a reported 'domestic row'.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: "The force was called to reports of a domestic incident at an address in Church Road, Quarndon in June (2023). A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of assault and was released on police bail while enquiries continued.

"On 14 December, Charles Hanson was charged with seven alleged offences: Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm x 2, Assault by beating x 2, Engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour."

The statement added Hanson was released on police bail to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on January 10. The antiques expert denies the seven police charges and says he "never behaved aggressively or unlawfully towards my family" ahead of appearing in court next month.

Hanson, who moved out of his £1.5million family home in Derbyshire earlier this year, admits to some "difficult times" in his marriage to wife Rebecca Ludlam and expresses his sadness that their troubles have become a criminal matter - adding that he will "be cooperating fully with the investigation and legal process".

The 45-year-old is best known for his appearances as an antiques expert on Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip. His career began in 1999 at Christie's as a valuer in the European Ceramics and Glass Department. Six years later, he founded Hansons Auctioneers and Valuers.

Earlier this year, Charles talked about his rise to fame and the mistakes he made throughout his career. "It was a sort of big thing to start my own," he said to Daily Express. "So when I was 27 years old, I wasn't married, had no dependents and you know, I made a few mistakes but you learn and you build it slowly."

The auctioneer previously opened up about personal loss. He and Rebecca lost their newborn son, Tommy, in 2012. He told Staffordshire Live at the time: "After losing Tommy, who was born asleep in September 2012, we were overjoyed to have a daughter who has a calm and relaxed nature, just like my wife." Rebecca, who is a radiographer, added: "What happened was terrible and it could not have come at a worse time for us."

During the same year, Charles was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Speaking to The Mirror at the time, he said: "Being diagnosed with testicular cancer was a real shock. I’ve been fit and healthy for years so you don’t think something like that is going to get you. It had been a busy summer with filming and auctions, but last August, I had just got out of the shower when I noticed things felt wrong."
