John Lennon's son Julian opened up about the painful reason he hates the classic Beatles song, Hey Jude.
Julian, who is the son of John and Cynthia Powell, said the hit track reminds him of the pain behind his parents' divorce and 'the fact he rarely saw his father again'. The song, released in 1968, was written by Sir Paul McCartney to comfort Julian and Cynthia after John left his marriage for Yoko Ono.
Sir Paul is recorded to have said about the song: "I started with the idea ‘Hey Jules,’ which was Julian, don’t make it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Hey, try and deal with this terrible thing. I knew it was not going to be easy for him. I always feel sorry for kids in divorces."
And now, Julian revealed the song 'drives him up the wall' and causes him a 'lot of pain'.
Sir Paul wrote the song to comfort Julian amid the divorce (Twitter)"It's a beautiful sentiment, no question about that, and I'm very thankful - but I've also been driven up the wall by it," Julian told Esquire magazine. "I love the fact that he wrote a song about me and for mum, but depending on what side of the bed one woke up on, and where you're hearing it, it can be a good or a slightly frustrating thing."

Julian added he only saw his father 'a couple of times' before he was killed in New York in 1980. The musician and photographer said people think it's 'cute' to quote the song to him, "but I don't think they realise there's a lot of pain behind what happened,' he said.

It's not just a 'pick yourself up and dust yourself off and be happy'," Julian added. The song causes 'deep emotional pain' for the star and, although he can 'celebrate' it, it will always 'be dark' to him.
Last month, Sir Paul revealed he felt like he was reuniting with his late pal John while working on the Beatles' new song, Now And Then. The track, described as the last Beatles song, was sourced from a Lennon demo and finished by Sir Paul and Sir Ringo Starr decades after the original recording.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1, Sir Paul said: "Before John died he was working on some songs and Yoko (Ono, Lennon's wife) spoke to George Harrison and said 'I've got a cassette with some John songs on that he never got to finish. Would you be interested in finishing them off?' So we thought about it and we thought 'Yeah, it would be great', 'cause in a way we would be working with John again, which we thought we would never be able to do."
