Your Sky TV will lose popular free content next month in major blow to UK homes

There's bad news coming for millions of Sky subscribers in the New Year with a popular free app closing its doors in the UK for good. The Peacock platform first arrived on Sky devices - such as Glass and Sky Q - back in 2021 with the promise of it offering top-rated shows in the UK without any additional subscription fees. Content such as Suits, Ruthfoird Falls, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Saved by the Bell and The Real Housewives of New York have all been available to stream on this side of the pond, via Peacock, but not for much longer.

In an update on its website, Sky has confirmed that things will be ending very soon with this service shutting down. "The Peacock app will close on 9 January," Sky said in an update.

Although Peacock's standalone streaming service won't be available any longer, Sky has said some Peacock shows will still be shown on Sky channels. It's also been confirmed that other Peacock content will move to the premium Hayu app, which costs £4.99 to watch.

It's not yet confirmed what programmes are moving where but expect more news to be announced in the coming weeks.

Although Peacock shutting down is bad news for some, Sky has just announced a major boost for others. It's been revealed that the Channel 4 streaming service is finally available on Q devices.

That means there’s now access to the full catalogue of Channel 4 content - including boxsets of fan favourites such as Gogglebox, The Inbetweeners, Married at First Sight, and The Great British Bake Off - which can all be watched on demand.

The Channel 4 app also provides a range of other useful features including personalised content suggestions, the ability to continue watching across multiple devices, and a ‘My List’ feature to bookmark shows.

“With today’s launch we’re bringing the very best, personalised Channel 4 streaming experience to millions of Sky Q customers across the country," said Karla Berry, Distribution & Partnerships Leader, Commercial Innovation, Channel 4.

"Over the coming months viewers can expect to see us continue to enhance our presence across multiple platforms.”
