Dick Van Dyke appeared to be in a chipper mood as he hit a gym session with his wife Arlene Silver, 52, ahead of his milestone 98th birthday.

The former Mary Poppins star looks incredible for his age as he is still healthy and active building up a sweat just one day ahead of his 98th birthday which fell on December 13th. The Grammy award-winning star looked in high spirits as he set off without the assistance of a wheelchair or cane for the gym and stopping for a brief chat with one of his excited fans.

During the conversation the former Chitty Chitty Bang Bang actor was asked if he was ready to get in a good workout ahead of his special day. To which he replied: "Tomorrow, that’s right. My God, nobody should be 98 years old!” He then pointed and smiled towards his wife Arlene and said: "I hate going to the gym. She makes me go to the gym!”

The lovebirds are often seen hitting the gym and living an active healthy lifestyle together as they've often been seen getting in workouts in California. The pair share a long, loving union as they've been inseparable for 11 years now despite receiving criticism from fans for their shocking 46-year age difference.

In 2013, Arlene spoke to Access Hollywood about her romance with Dick and revealed that at first she thought a relationship with the older actor would "never work." But after getting past their age gap, she felt that they fit seamlessly together as they both shared the same "attitude" and many similar interests. She gushed: "It works so well, it's frightening that it's just easy. Once we gave up the whole ... the age thing, it just worked so well."

Arlene said that they immediately hit it off as friends and quickly grew to develop romantic feelings for each other. The Golden Globe award-winning actor shared the same sentiment as he told Closer Weekly in 2022: "[Silver] can go with the flow. She loves to sing and dance, which we do almost every day. She's just delightful."
