English football’s two most successful clubs will renew their historic rivalry on Sunday as Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield.

With United having crashed out of Europe during the week, Jurgen Klopp ’s high-flying Reds will be keen to inflict more pain on Erik ten Hag. The majority of those in attendance will hope to see a repeat of the 7-0 thrashing Liverpool inflicted on United back in March as they seek to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League.

As they top the Premier League, Liverpool also are leading the way in terms of form and have taken 14 points in their past six matches with four wins and two draws. United have also fared well in the league lately, but last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth put an abrupt end to what had been a strong run of form.

Ten Hag is now under extreme pressure, with United’s Champions League exit meaning they will not compete in any European football for the remainder of this season and any hopes of silverware hinge on their FA Cup performances. Liverpool, meanwhile, are in a very different position and are in contention to win every competition they entered at the start of the season.

Derbies can bring the best out of teams, but United’s recent Anfied record suggests they may struggle to emerge from Merseyside with a positive result. However, the match will still be an engaging contest and here is how you can follow the action.

Team news:

News that Joel Matip will miss the rest of the season is a blow for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp continues to be unable to call upon the services of Thiago Alcantara, Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota. They are also joined on the sidelines by Alexis Mac Allister, who is out with a knee injury for one match.

United, meanwhile, have had their struggles this season heavily influenced by an astonishing 13-strong injury list. Captain Bruno Fernandes misses out on this match following suspension and both Harry Maguire & Luke Shaw will also be assessed.
