A flight had to make an emergency landing after the cabin filled with smoke leaving passengers horrified.
The Jet2 flight, bound for Geneva, Switzerland, had to turn around shortly after taking off from Glasgow Airport on Saturday morning. The jet was somewhere north of Dumfries when smoke began to seep into the cabin where passengers were sitting, forcing pilots to make a U-turn back to the airport in case of a fire.
Thankfully, the smoke was not caused by a fire, with the airline later confirming it came from on board catering equipment. A fault with the galley oven resulted in it giving off smoke.
Passengers were able to board a different plane and continue on to Geneva, the airline confirmed. A spokesperson told the Scottish Sun: “We can confirm that flight LS161 followed procedure and returned to Glasgow Airport after a minor fault with the oven in the forward galley created some smoke. The aircraft landed safely and customers will be transferred onto a replacement aircraft.”
