Adrien Rabiot's mum has shut down claims that the Manchester United target has already agreed a new contract with Juventus.

Rabiot, 28, signed a one-year extension to his deal over the summer which left his long-term future up for debate. Despite United being on "excellent terms" with the French midfielder and his mother-agent Veronique, though, it was reported last week that they had again missed out on the chance to sign him.

But the Red Devils have suddenly been given hope of finally bringing in the former Paris Saint-Germain star, who Juventus agreed to sell to United for £15million in the summer of 2022. Football director John Murtough even flew out to Turin to seal the deal, only for Rabiot's 'obscene' salary demands to prove too much during Ten Hag tumultuous first transfer window as manager.

The Red Devils could now renew their interest in the 28-year-old after Veronique, renowned for her bullish negotiating tactics, fumed in an interview with ANSA: "It's not true (that Rabiot has agreed a new contract). Adrien has not decided anything yet. I'm not happy with fake stories around."

Veronique's response comes after she made eyebrow-raising comments during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport last month. Rabiot's mum also took the opportunity to deny that she demanded a €10m (£8.7m) commission from United to approve her son's transfer.

She went on to add: "United wanted to meet me to illustrate their interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin. There were never any real negotiations, and we are on excellent terms with Manchester United."

After putting the transfer speculation of 2022 behind him, Rabiot enjoyed his best season yet with Juventus last term, scoring eight goals from a variety of midfield positions and helping Massimiliano Allegri's side reach the Europa League semi-finals. His current campaign could end even better, though, with Juventus just two points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

The France international has chipped in with two goals and three assists across 14 appearances, helping continue his role as a regular for club and country. Rabiot expressed his happiness with his situation when speaking to Telefoot in October, beaming: "This is a club where I am happy and we are having a very good season.

"Staying at a team I knew very well, in the season going into the European Championship, seemed the best option (when he renewed his contract). The club has faith in me. We'll see later on about a renewal but, in any case, I am very happy with my situation at the club and in the France squad."
