One of the best racehorses in the world has been honoured with a special edition watch.

Golden Sixty is the most successful racehorse in Hong Kong racing history who took his record to 26 wins from 30 starts when he captured the Longines Hong Kong Mile for the third time in spectacular fashion on Sunday.

He beat an international field, including runners from Ireland, France and Japan, to collect his tenth success at Group 1 level.

Hong Kong's hometown hero won by four lengths to take his lifetime earnings to £16.5 million.

His success for an all Hong Kong team of owner, businessman Stanley Chan Ka Leung, trained by Francis Lui, and Hong Kong-born jockey Vincent Ho is a source of immense pride for the local community.

To honour his superstar racehorse, Chan has had a special watch designed.

The chronograph-syled timepiece has the words “Golden Sixty, the pride of Hong Kong” inscribed around the perimeter of the watch face and a disc displaying the owners’ colours.

Chan has had 500 of the watches produced which are on sale at the specially set price of HK$888 [£90]. The number 8 is the luckiest number in Chinese culture dut to its association with wealth, prosperity, success and status.

The money raised from the sale of the watches, which are bound to sell out, will be given to a local charity.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has a longstanding history of philanthropy and commits millions to charity and community projects every year. It’s one of the world’s top ten charitable donors.
