Manchester United’s season of misery reached a new nadir as they were thrashed by Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The midweek win over Chelsea had eased some of the pressure on Erik ten Hag, but it was piled back on after one of the worst results in the club’s recent history. A victory over the Cherries, who started the day in 16th, would have put United level on points with champions Manchester City, with cause for optimism.

But goals from Dominic Solanke, Phillip Billing and Marco Sensei ensured it will instead be another post-match autopsy with the same old questions returning. Ten Hag surprised fans from the off by recalling Anthony Martial in place of Rasmus Hojlund.

And the tone of the afternoon was set after just five minutes when Solanke opened the scoring to send the pocket of fans from the South Coast delirious. And their afternoon got even better when Billing and Senesi scored in the space of five minutes.

By the time referee Peter Bankes blew for full time, the visitors had a fourth ruled out for offside, with those remaining in the home stands loudly booing their team. The stunning victory marked Bournemouth’s first ever away win against United, continuing their brilliant run of form under Andoni Iraola.

United have now lost 11 matches in all competitions and have conceded three or more goals at home on five different occasions in all competitions. It was a pathetic display from the Red Devils, who now face a daunting gauntlet of fixtures including Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Here’s how Mirror Football rated the performance of United’s flops at Old Trafford…they didn’t score highly.
