If you're bored with what's on live TV there's a nice update now on Freeview that offers a blockbuster boost. The free-to-view service is getting an upgrade thanks to the GREAT! Network with this platform adding a new catch-up option. Called GREAT! Player, it brings a swathe of shows and movies into living rooms with TV fans able to watch when they want rather than having to tune into more restrictive live telly.

GREAT! says its new online resource, which is similar to BBC iPlayer and ITVX, will include content such as A Rainy Day In New York (starring Timothée Chalamet, Selena Gomeza and Jude Law), Only God Forgives ( with Ryan Gosling), Logan Lucky (starring Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig) plus classic series such as M_A_S*H and Diagnosis: Murder.

"With a selection of movies, fast-paced action films, love stories and nostalgic series, viewers can catch-up on missed content or dive into a catalogue featuring hundreds of hours of specially curated content from the popular GREAT! Network TV channels anytime they like, for free!," GREAT! explained.

So how do you tune in and watch?

Firstly, you'll need a Freeview device such as a compatible TV or set-top box. There are over a thousand Freeview Play models to choose from including Android TV, Amazon Fire, LG, Panasonic, Sony, JVC, Humax, Hisense, and Hitachi.

Then a broadband connection is vital as this update doesn't come via your aerial. Instead, all things to watch are beamed to your screen via Freeview Play and the web.

If you have the right gear and web access then GREAT! Player should be available from this month.

What is Freeview Play?

For those not aware, Freeview Play launched back in 2015 and is host to more than 70 standard and a selection of HD live channels along with 30 radio stations and 12 on-demand players: BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5, UKTV Play, Watch Free UK, PBS America, Great! player, S4C Clic 1 , STV Player, POP Player and BBC Sounds.

Those accessing the service will find around 60,000 hours of on-demand content to watch along with over 1,250 box sets.

The service is completely free of charge on any Freeview Play supported
