Andre Onana was chastised by Stephen Warnock and Manchester United fans after his latest blunder left the club on the brink of elimination from the Champions League.

The Cameroon international, 27, was caught out twice during Wednesday night's dramatic 3-3 draw at Galatasaray - a result that leaves United needing snookers to qualify for the tournament's knockout phase. First, he was wrong-footed by a Hakim Ziyech free-kick before he somehow fumbled a second strike from the ex-Chelsea forward to make it 3-2.

Kerem Akturkoglu struck to restore parity and leave United's European campaign in the balance. And Onana was brutally singled out by Warnock, who was covering the game for BBC 5 Live.

Speaking after Akturkoglu's strike, Warnock assessed: "I don't think Onana should be beaten at the near post. Your positioning has to be better. He's let his team down tonight and I don't like saying that. You have to do better in a game of this magnitude."

Onana also bore the brunt of the frustration from fans on social media post-match with the majority blaming him for United's collapse. One user branded him as "the most chaotic goalkeeper on the planet", while a United fan quipped: "Andre Onana, he doesn't want us in the UCL".

Despite another chastening night for Manchester United's new No.1, Erik ten Hag refused to blame the former Inter Milan shot-stopper for a result which leaves United with a mountain to climb if they are to progress in Europe.

When he was asked by TNT Sports who he held responsible for throwing the game away, he replied: "It's always me. I am responsible for this. We know we are in a project. We are making improvements so that's very hopeful. We are going in the right direction so I know we will be successful in the long-term but if you want to stay in the Champions League you need to win these games."

He also said of the match: "We were winning and then we're losing it. We should have taken three points, that's clear. We did this in other games.

"I was pleased with how we played but at the same time I have to criticise the team because the defending is not good enough. We are leading 3-1 and we cannot afford mistakes as it makes a difference."
