Alejandro Garnacho reduced a young fan to tears when he gifted him the football boots with which he scored his wonder goal at Everton.

The Manchester United star scored the first of his side's three in the win at Goodison Park. His overhead kick is being hailed as one of the greatest goals in the Premier League era and the young fan told the Argentine that his effort was better than Wayne Rooney's famous strike against Manchester City in 2011.

Originally Garnacho had stopped to sign a picture for the young fan, but it was also his birthday and the United player pulled out a Nike box to hand him. He opened it to find the red boots that Garnacho had worn on Sunday, which were also signed.

The young fan was reduced to tears before saying he was "so happy" following Garnacho's classy gesture. He later said: "Thank you Garnacho, I love you, you're the best in the world."

Those watching on Sunday were left stunned by the United star's acrobatic effort, which put the visitors ahead early on. Garnacho reeled away before copying Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic celebration. Gary Neville commented on his podcast that Garnacho's effort had topped Rooney's.

"I've not seen as good a goal as that from an overhead kick. That was the most beautiful overhead kick," he said. "Do you remember that Olivier Giroud [scorpion kick] goal which was a spectacular goal and I'd never seen that before? I was there that day and the day Wayne Rooney scored against Man City, that was an amazing goal at that point in the game.

"But today, I felt it [Garnacho's goal] was something I've not seen before. The thing that struck me straight away was the fact he had to move away, he comes in and comes back out, moves his feet quickly and then throws himself in the air."

Garnacho's effort on Merseyside was his seventh goal for United as he continues his rise. Erik ten Hag though has been keen to keep the player's feet on the ground, insisting he has much to improve to become the player he wants to be after being quizzed on comparisons with Rooney and Ronaldo.

“Don't compare, I don't think it's right,” he said. “They all have their own identity, but for Garnacho to go that way, he still has a lot to come. He has to work very hard, and you have to do it on a consistent basis. So far, he’s not, but he definitely has high potential and [is able] to do some amazing things. And it's not the first time we saw this [talent], we have already seen glimpses."
